National Memorial

Every year, firefighters across the country give their lives in the line of duty - the same call we answer here in Karnes City. We honor their sacrifice.

Since 1981, the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial has stood on the National Fire Academy campus in Emmitsburg, Maryland - a stone monument bearing a sculpted Maltese Cross and an eternal flame, surrounded by a Wall of Honor listing the names of those lost in the line of duty. Congress officially designated it the national memorial to fallen firefighters in 1990.

KCVFD doesn't keep a list of the nationwide fallen ourselves - that record is researched, verified, and maintained by the organizations below. Visit them to search a name, learn a story, or find ways to support the families left behind.
